City of Sanctuary Manchester

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Yesterday, Sunday 16th October, Supporters Matt and Rena Jackson from Fallowfield, successfully ran the Manchester half-marathon to raise money for Manchester City of Sanctuary. Please encourage them with your donations!

We are hoping to fund a wonderful Twixmas Event after Christmas and future Conversation Clubs for our Sanctuary Seekers in 2017.  Click on https://mydonate . bt . com/fundraisers/matthewjackson2
We can donate until 16th November 2016 so, please share with your supportive friends and neighbours.

On Friday, Charles Kwaku-Odoi presented our first Manchester School of Sanctuary Award at Wardle Academy, Rochdale.

Congratulations to the whole school community for educating themselves about refugees, embedding what they’ve leant across the school curriculam and then sharing what they’ve learnt. LEARN, EMBED, SHARE. If your school can do it, you too could receive a School of Sanctuary Award.

Our next Conversation Club is on Thursday 20th October 6-8pm at manchester Cathedral Visitor’s Centre, (10 Cateaton St, m2 1SQ). FoodCycle will be providing us with a wonderful meal. Charles will be explaining the anti-racism policies and hate crime awareness campigns intended to kee people new to this country and culture safe. The city centre police will be joining us.

The Community Meal on Sunday 30th October we will be celebrating the end of Black History Month. Everyone will be invited to wear their national costume or traditional colours. Our activities will have an Autumn theme: could you teach someone to be a champion conker player?, could you organise the apple bobbing?, could you arrange indoor sparklers and explain what Bonfire Night is all about?! The Altona Wind Quintet will be playing during the meal.

You’ll be glad to know that 4 very capable, lovely people have applied to be new Trustees. We have postponed the interviews until November 10th so if you would like to consider stepping up for Manchester City of Sanctuary please send your CV and a covering letter, explaining why you’d fit the role to [email protected]

Autumn Greetings
from Jane, Charles, Jeff, Fay, Dianne, Zhila, Maryam and David.
