Ultimate Spirit

Ultimate Spirit have teamed up with Manchester City of Sanctuary to offer free ultimate frisbee sessions to our members. In our feedback questionnaires our members said they wanted more sport so it was fantastic

to be approached by Chris and Emma who were keen to offer frisbee to our members. Thank you Ultimate Spirit! Check out their Facebook page here.

Here’s a description of their work from Chris and Emma:

“Ultimate Spirit is a new Manchester based organisiation that aims to bring together refugee communities, asylum seekers and the wider community through learning and playing the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. UltimateFrisbee is an exciting sport that combines the fast paced nature of football, but with a frisbee instead. We are holding sessions every Wednesday at Albert Park, Salford, but appreciate that travel costs are prohibitive for many refugees and asylum seekers. Therefore, we have launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover travel costs. If you have any questions or want to get involved, message us on Facebook and we’ll be in touch!

In partnership with Manchester City of Sanctuary, we have just completed a successful set of pilot sessions over 8 weeks in the Salford area, and we are looking ahead to our plans for 2017/18. Our organisation wants to be welcoming to all, we want to build a community with a shared love of Ultimate Frisbee, and we want to organise events that provide a catalyst for the themes of welcome and community. In that vein we want to:

• Organise monthly ‘Ultimate Spirit Days’, open to all. We learn about the sport, we play games, and we have a social afterwards.

• We want to enter in local Ultimate Frisbee tournaments, giving an aim to our training.

• If the first two aims are successful, we want to organise our own ‘hat’ tournaments, where people of all abilities play in random teams of equal ability. They meet, learn, play and most importantly, have fun!
