I saw an amazing Youtube clip this week (11.12.15) of Canada’s President Trudeau welcoming new Syrian refugees at the airport.
He joined volunteers giving out warm coats to everyone who had arrived.
He welcomed everyone saying “You arrive here as refugees but you will leave this airport terminal tonight with health insurance numbers and work permits and the right to become full citizens of Canada.”
It was an awesome gesture!

We want this welcome for the asylum seekers we know, who have escaped death, torture or imprisonment and regimes at war, who are too fearful to go home, each person for their own good reason.
Tomorrow the House of Lords debate the latest Immigration Bill. We will keep you informed.

Until that time, we want to make sure that Sanctuary Seekers in Manchester know they are welcome here.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of Manchester City of Sanctuary this year,
building a culture of welcome, through friendship and Conversation Clubs.

Thank you especially to Abigail Spooner, who has created our special Christmas Newsletter.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all at the Twixmas Party,
Christmas food and Ceilidh.
30th December 5pm-8pm
at the Transformation Resource Centre,
Richmond Grove,
Longsight,
M13 0LN,
behind Longsight Police Station),

Do bring some food for the table to share.
Children welcome.

We wish you a happy Christmas and a look forward to a New Year,
to 2016 and all its new possibilities.
