Manchester City of Sanctuary works with asylum seekers and refugees – members of society whose backgrounds involve discrimination, fear and persecution. We are led by their needs and give platforms for their voices, stories and experiences. We welcome all with a smile and open arms, expecting nothing but what is offered; standing shoulder to shoulder, walking in step with them along their journey.
With the death of George Floyd and the protests around the world, we stand in solidarity, exclaiming that Black Lives Matter. We are committed to evaluating our work, and ourselves reflecting where we can do better; to be more anti-racist, to be more vocal and to challenge racism where we see it.
Over the next few months, we commit to making our board of trustees more diverse and reflective of the communities with work with. We will restart our advisory group, listen to what is working, what is needed, and enabling that to happen.
